Default Is this the right harness for CEL diagnostic? Pics inside!

I started the EG/GSR Hybrid last night. Turned over maybe 3 or 4 times before starting. Idled pretty high once the accelerator was pressed in a little. The exhaust shop adjusted the throttle cable and now it's fine. My battery light is staying on as well as the CEL. I used the paper clip at the harness in the pic and got one long flash and that was all. If this is the correct harness than it's my o2 sensor. I plugged the o2 into the harness that is on the GSR motor, but I guess they are not going to the correct pins on the ECU. I'm going to check it out. Anyhow, I drove the car on the way home and got on it a couple of times :hammer: :hammer: Not like red-lining (don't even think vtec engaged), but it was moving. The damn temperature needle got all the way up to the RED nd I pulled over to look at the motor. The coolant and lines were HOT as hell!!!! When I got home I checked the oil and ended up adding probably 1 1/2 - 2 quarts from the 5 quart Mobil 1 container. I'm hoping that was the reason since I hear this can cause the motor to run hot. I'm going to put the car on very level surface and make sure the tranny fluid is full as well shortly. Anyhow, is this the correct harness to do the CEL diagnostic?

On c-speed racing it says a blue 2 wire harness. All I see is this brown 2 wire harness that was attached to a gray harness that had more wires on it. This is all located above the ECU:

PS <> I pulled the harness up for the photo.

ADDED: Just noticed the IAB solenoid harness under the intake manifold was NOT hooked up. (DUMBA$$)

I did the check engine diagnostic again. The car beeps and the CEL comes on for a few seconds then goes off. After another few seconds the CEL comes on and stays on (waited about 30 seconds). Did this with the paper clip and with the harness plugged in like normal operation and the same thing happened both times. I must be doing something wrong?!?!?!

Also, coolant reservoir tank was dry as a bone. Filled it up and going to check the tranny fluid now. **I did add all the fluids. Just starting to think not enough.

Which model car did you swap the motor into?? The IAB won't set a code, you probably overheated because the thermostats like to stick on motors that have sat around for a while, especially if you still had some air pockets in the coolant system.

I'll check it out and see. I need to see if the fan is even coming on....

It's real common to get air pockets in a freshly swapped motor, that can also give you idle problems since one of the idle valves is controlled by coolant temp and flow.

The car is a 93 Cx / Motor 98 GSR (USDM)

My radiator fan is NOT coming on either. Is there a fuse for the fan? All the wires look to be connected.

I've seen this problem before where the fan switch would not operate the fan, in that case i would jumper two of the pins on the fan relay and this keeps the fan on any time the key is on.

Where is the fan switch located? I checked the fuses under the hood and they are ok. There is a small black box fuse or relay that is for the "cooling fan" and I have no idea how to tell if it needs to replaced or not.

Thanks for any info!

It won't need replaced, your fan switch is the two pin plug on the thermostat housing, jumper it, if the fan doesn't come on, you'll need to jumper the relay

Ok, I'm going to look into that. But, here is what I just did:

tested the fan and it works (touched 2 wires to the battery)
Took the relay out of my 98 Civic and plugged it into the Cx in the fuse box and drove the car. Needle NEVER even got close to the center on the temp. gauge. Fan did NOT come on throughout the 6-8 minutes of driving.
I got home turned the car off, tried to start it and sounds like the battery is dead. Could I possibly have the starter power wire as a ground and it's not recharging the battery???
