Well if your on a budget you could pick up a DX motor / tranny
& put a vtec head on that..Or just get a sohc vtec motor....
Ive had almost every Sohc motor that was made in my car
in the long run you will be better off with a newer motor...92-up

d15b block
d16 head non vtec shaved, port polish
si tranny
89 tegra ecu<more aggressive fuel mapping>
and if u wanna cheat a lil bit a 55shot wont hurt

 

it workz pretty good in my rex believe it or not i just need to tune it a bit more and its pretty good, i ran it in nj wen i was up there recently,<june> and i ran a 14.1 with a 55 shot which isnt bad for a sohc non vtec and i forgot to add the lil details like a bronz stage 3 clutch, cam gear, zc injectors, aem fuel rail, i/h/e, hx wheels, and itz about gutted to the point of no return, only one seet no rug nothing under the dash etc...... and it pulls all the way thru especially after about 3000rpm, and with that set-up u have higher lift and higher comp. or so my mechanic tellz me, im thinking about building it to hold a 100 shot cuz i am determined to have the fastest sohc non vtec*** in tampa
