LS VTEC question
factoring in cost and all other things involved in swapping a motor................ which would be better just swapping in a GSR motor OR building an LS VTEC with the motor i already have BUT you can use ONLY GSR parts to build said LS vtec

well in the class that i am in in auto x (STS) you are allowed to swap parts from any car to any other car as long as they are on the same line (meaning that when prepared equally they end up in the same street prepared class) so it would only make sense to take advantage of the rules and get the most power by either swapping in a GSR motor or building lsvtec by using only GSR parts (aftermarket parts would put me in street mod, which is a class i cannot yet afford to be competitive in) so im wondering if you can effectively build a decent ls vtec using only GSR parts or if it wouldnt be worth the time/effort and to just save the money and swap in a GSR motor.

if you build ls vtec do it right don't use gsr parts b/c the rods are shorter tha ls rods the pistons don't have enough compression to do anything for you and if u use a gsr crank shaft you are destroking the motor making less low end power and high end power as well.
here is what to do to build a safe and fast ls vtec
1 eagle rods
2 11:1 comp pistons
3 block girdle to reduce vibrations(gsr and type r blocks have them)
4 p72 gsr head for higher comp. ratios(i have one for sale)
5 either a b16 or gsr tranny(ls gears are too long to do anythin except boost with)

again i cant afford to be competitive in SM just yet so that is why i asked the question better ls vtec with only GSR parts or better just to swap in GSR motor. grrrr can i not get a straight answer? I know it would be faster to build it with all the best parts but since it is an autox car that is out of the question.

wel you could shave the head i suppose because the rules to allow for machining smooth in case of warping but as far as how do they know what is on the inside they dont it is just the honor system. i dunno i'd just feel kinda hollow if i won while cheating

Alright here is how to build it and stay leagal in your class: (maybe)
-ls block
-ls rods, use arp rod bolts, have tehm resized and shotpeened
-use gsr water pump, oil pump and timing belt
-use the .25mm oversized pistons out of a 00 si b16a comp ratio 11.3-4:1
-use gsr head
Read the rules carefully I'm not sure an lsvtec would even be allowed. GSR pistons would yield too low of a comp ratio imo at about 10.2:1
-ls block
