Default normal water temp for del sol?

my 1993 del sol has had problems since nov.finally running again with rebuilt stock computer, new radiator and hoses.the temp guage would slowly climb to the 3/4 mark when sitting in traffic so i installed an sftermarket guage unit today.temp is running 190 when moving but will go to around 215 when sitting in traffic.is that normal or is there another problem to sole.water overflow bottle was empty too if that means anything.

When cold, see if the water is high enough in the rad.
See if the oflow bottle has a leak.
How do we know the fan is coming on?
When was the last time you installed a timing belt and water pump?

new water pump/timing belt within a year and a half, about 10,000 miles on them now.i believe the fan is the answer.when temp reads 220,its still not on.no leaks in the bottle.is the fan controlled by the computer or is there a temp sensor in the block that turns it on? im thinking running 220 at stoplights wont be good in the long term.

I think you are right about the 220 degrees not being good. With some cars there is a sensor in the bottom of the radiator that cuts on the fan if water is in the radiator. Some people insert a paper clip into the contacts
of the plug so the fan comes on when the temp is hot. Some people wire the fan direct to the ignition with a manual overide switch so the fan can be cut off when they don't need it.
