Default NEED HELP! 96 Ek 4dr doors will not open!

Ok what up tr...I just bought a ek four door a few days ago but it has a few small problems like the drivers side door doesn't open from the outside and the drivers side rear doesn't open from at all. I just wanted to know if that was fixable and if so how easy is it to fix?

Also on this car the tranny slips a bad 3rd but the car is auto and i've only replaced 5spd trannies. So I wanted to know would I be better off just getting tranny work done or just replacing it completely?

As far as the doors are concerned, you have linkage issues. I'd take the door panels off and make sure all the rods are connected to where they are supposed to be.

And as far as the transmission, replace the whole thing with a good transmission. It's going to be way quicker and less stressful.

+1 on the door linkage.
A lot of times there is a plastic clip, that over time will harden, crack and fall out.-Bob

There are plenty of places around the bay that will rebuild auto trannies and only
one that rebuilds manuals. I have no idea how a person can tell a good used auto
tranny until it's in the car and driven.....and then it may be too late.... (buyer beware).

I know sometimes getting one from a junkyard, they say you can get another one
within a certain number of days if it's bad..........but how many times am I going to replace
a bad tranny with another bad tranny that I need to replace with another bad tranny, etc, etc.
until I just take it to the tranny guy to get it rebuilt?

I once bought a radio (simple example) from the recyclers/formerly junkyards....that
I kept taking back and getting bad radios for and after swapping out the forth bad radio,
I bought a new one. LOL, I can swap out a bad radio easier that swapping out a bad
tranny. Your results may vary....-Bob

Bob gives good advice. if you are able i would suggest switching over to a manual. its not an overly difficult process but it is not for beginners, otherwise you take your chances with the automatic. there are several junkyards that specialze in japanese cars, one of these places, or TR, is a great place to buy the manual swap parts at a fair price.

Nofx,
Thanks for the kind words.
For some people, the way to get all the parts for the conversion is to take
pictures of your auto tranny, linkage, wiring, etc and anything that touches the
auto tranny.

Then find a car with manual tranny,
take pictures of the same places on a manual
tranny, and
buy all the parts that the auto tranny didn't have.
Keep all the bolts you removed as you took it apart.
Write down what order you took it apart in.

That way you have pictures to refer to and a set of instructions as to
what order to do the assembly.....as well as all the needed parts.

Plus pedals, interior stuff, etc.-Bob

Thanks alot guys..All that really helped! I remove the panels on the doors and see what's up. As for the tranny one of my good friends has a mint one he'll give to me. We did a conversion for his auto 2000 ek coupe...It took forever and pretty expensive seeing as we bought new parts for it. Best not to use used or old parts on a job like that

1996 to early 2000's Honda/Acura automatic transmissions are notorious for problems. That info is all over the Internet. As is the mid to late MT 3rd gear grind. Some of the 96+ Civic four door vehicles have a wiring harness issue causing intermittent operation of the windows. The wires at the door jam plug actually break off the pin. A real pain in the butt to fix.

If someone has a door panel removed so I can see where the pins break off,
we can probably find a solution.....and maybe do a how-to for TR.-Bob
