Anyone know oem part number breakdown to determine interchangeable parts?
I am need of a license plate light for my 93 vx, specifically the bulb mount/refractor as it broke. The full factory light (the mount/refractor is discontinued) is $25 discounted and appears to only be for 3 doors/hatchbacks.
I am trying to determine if I can snag one from the junkyard before I go by resolving a part number difference. The part numbers are below. Am I correct in saying SR3 = eg6 and SR4 = eg9? Can someone confirm the breakdown I quoted below for Honda motorcycles is correct for cars as well?
I know I can check at the junkyard by comparing my light to a 2d/4d I am just trying to understand the part number breakdown so I can know what parts are interchangeable in the future as well.
34102-SR3-A01 (3 door)
34102-SR4-A01 (2 door and 4 doors models)
Thanks!

Part number breakdown - ThumperTalk (if correct) states about Honda motorcycles:
The first 5 digits are the product class-all filters start with 15410, kickstarters 28300,etc. there may be minor variations here but this generally holds true.
Middle 3 numbers/letters are called the product code. this is the bike that the part was ORIGINALLY developed for. KZ3 is a CR250. KZ4 is CR125. CRF450 is MEB. Original CR125 elsinore is 360. You get the idea.
Parts on a 125 that were first intoduced on a 250 and are unchanged will still be KZ3, though. All 3 digit NUMBER (no letters) are old stuff, early 80's and before. Ran out of numbers then and started adding letters.
The final 3 digits/letters pertain to the version of the part and who they sorced it from when they have multiple suppliers of the same basic part. The first run of any given part is often "000", where as they will often update a part to make it better, and it's suffex will change to "001"
