Hey guys so i recently traded my hatch for a 95 ex coupe with a jdm b16a swap, well the car ran for one night then wouldnt start so i called neil sutton over to check it out he instatly recognized the car and told me it had bent valves, so we pulled off the head so he could take it back to his house to check it out, well this was the beggining of the problems, the block was supposed to be rebuilt and was clearly not the walls are complete sh** the coolant jackets are rusted and it appears the rings are going bad great news right? Well i get a call from neil telling me i have 6 bent intake valves and 6 bent exhaust valves, and that the head has been through hell and back and is warped he said that the deck is around an 8 and needs to be resurfaced bad considering at 2 you need a resurface. Also the head gasket was covered in copper spray. They had the head bolts torqued to an unbelievable number just to keep some compression. Well i called a shop in ybor callled 3d? or something like that they quoted me $285 for valve job, pressure test, and to get the deck resurfaced. + the addition of new valves that i went and bought for 100. Does that estimate sound right? And if not what shops would you reccomend? Thanks and as an overall note trades suck dont trust tr people lol

 

Everyone is going to recommend a different machine shop. I've been using 3D for a while now. Always provided great work at fair prices.

 

Yes that is who neil said he uses just wanted some reviews on their work,like reliability, time on work stuff like that, also I have never had head work done before so seeing what most people have paid for work as well

 

did you already buy the valves?if not i have some i will give you free to help you out..like alpha said everyone has differnt i myslef only use napa on florida ave. dont waste your money on the pressure test if you going to have the head resurfaced anyway..and for the rest around the coolent passages you can clean that up yourself with a long screwdriver and sand paper..and i hate people that use that copper spray its a waste lol sorry you got fucked over

 

Thank man I went and bought 8 exhaust but they only had 5 intakes at the time so they had to order more, but what are the chances this head is unfixable? I mean neil said it was way out of wack

 

i would say chances of not being able to reuse it at like 5% after its cleaned up and resurfaced.you should be good to go,just look over the valve guides make sure they are not cracked if not they should be fine for a rebuild.if the motor ran then it will be good
