Question Input shaft noise, but a head scratcher

For months and thousands of miles now, I thought the obvious and loud noise coming from my 96 Civic EX (D16Y was the throw out bearing, and I disregarded it.

But recently I read up a few things and it turns out to be the input shaft bearing, which is apparently a little more serious than a throw out bearing.

The thing is, the noise doesn't always sound. If I accelerate just right in first from a dig, and shifting from first to second, the noise doesn't occur, and it sounds as if there's nothing wrong with my car. It's always done this, ever since the sound started happening.

Now I really don't know what to do. I changed my transmission fluid tonight. That helped shifting, but the sound is still there. Should I rebuild my tranny? Or find a replacement?

I'm open to any suggestions, advice, and input in general. Also, I'm apparently looking for a D16Y8 hydro tranny, lulz.

Thanks guys

Yeah, it's an EX model, so I couldn't settle for less than a replacement EX tranny. That's why I'm in a rut, because I can't find one!

Thanks for input, and that's what I figured. The engine is being rebuilt soon, and I have a new clutch and throw out bearing waiting to go in, but I thought that would fix my problem, so now that I figured out it's a different source, I'm in a different predicament.

Anyone selling a 96-00 EX tranny? lol

Also, what I basically forgot to mention in OP, is why does this sound only occur in 3rd 4th and 5th, and why can I control it for first and second. As long as there's torque or accel from the engine in 1st and 2nd, the sound won't occur, but if I launch to where it doesn't make the sound, then bring it to 4,000 rpms, as soon as I reach 4k, the sound will start because I'm not continuing the acceleration.

It's all very strange to me.

Reputable? I'm new to the community, so I do not know.

I'm worried when it's cracked open, there will be more parts wrong with it, and it will end up costing more than some trannys are let go for on here.

Thanks for the input all.
