First let me start by stating the type of car it is. I drive a 99 civic hatch with no power steering. I recently purchased a set of rims and tires and had them put on the car. The tires are balanced however right around 75 mph the steering wheel will start to shimmy. This continues until about 85mph and then it goes away at about 90. This never happend before the wheels were put on. Do you have any suggestions as to what could be wrong with the car? Please let me know.

 

Your alignment would have to be pretty damn out of spec to cause a shimmy in the steering wheel and chances are if it was that bad you would have noticed it before having the new wheels tossed on (although the larger contact patch would exagerate matters). Id put my money on a bad wheel balance job. Youd be surprised at how many places cant correctly balance a wheel. And if that turns out not to be the case you might have a wheel or two that is out-of-round. Any good shop that can balance a wheel should tell you if the wheel is out-of-round since it is pretty obvious when you toss them on the machine

 

Well... the first wheel that was balanced was way out of whack right out of the box. I watched them balance every wheel so I know it was done correctly. Maybe i should call them and see what they can do for me. Hopefully it will be something. Thanks for the info Bill and John!!!!
