supercharged d15b timing question
yes i have a timing gun (dont talk to me like im f*ckin stupid) i know you can retard it with the distributor i just figured the cam gear would be a little more accurate for tuning and its something i have had laying around forever and i thought this would be a good time to put it on.
Set timing by using a long screwdriver inserted in cylinder one (on b-series there are holes in the cam itself you can put a pin in it and it will hold them at 0 degrees). With the screwdriver in there spin the crank until it is at the top of it's stroke. Now you can put the timing belt on. Once that is all done and tightened up, set spark timing via the distributor and you will be good to go.
Wheres the love man?! lol Wasn't even talking to you like your a dummy. You started the post with installed aem adj. cam gear.. need to retard. So i figured you didnt have a timing gun .. i asked if you had one.. open ended question? Would have told you rotated dizzy clockwise if you had a timing gun. Didn't mean to offend .. must be my TR rating
Well, anyways you sound interested in tuning it yourself so if i may give my 2 cents..i would do it the old fashion way. Reading spark plugs. Go 1 colder on the plugs (bring another set just in case). Adjust fuel pressure (also assuming your already using 93octane) around 40psi at idle. Assuming you have the 7lbs pulley or whatever, that you shouldn't need to retard more then 4 or 5 degrees. Bring you tools, find a good spot, and run it hard for 1.. 2... 3 gears. Pull over, check your plugs.. number 3 cylinder is Hondas weak spot .. check them all anyways. Look for detenation. Make sure NO "sprinkles" are on the plugs.. you should know what a good plug looks like (grayish
). You could do it the other way by using the knock sensor and reading ping.. but thats another story hehe. A proper tune by a tuner is the best way by all means .. but at the cost of $600 plus a engine management system. But if you want to drive it now DIY FTW!

The cam timing isnt a good idea for changing distributor timing for fear of contact. Also because it changes more than just spark.
However changing your overall timing by just turning the distributor is a horrible way to do ANYTHING and tuning is the only way to be reliable and safe. When you tuen you must sync the ecu with the crank timing first, then you can be certain that the timing numbers being input into the map will mimic the timing you see at the crank. Good luck and enjoy having some torque!

jap dan tuned my supercharged hatch, i saw him mess with the cam gears he said he retart it back 2 degrees and it was only one of the cams i have to go and look to see which one i forgot. but after he did it, it made like an extra 8whp on the dyno... no a bad trick
