to be honest, those cams neeed vtec to crossover at 6k rpm or higher. more than likely higher in your case because your stock intake and exhaust are not letting the car breathe well enough. this being said, you also need a tune, and you should probably also have it dyno tuned for cam gear timing as well. just my .02. those cams are too big to have vtec set at 5500, and your motor does not really have the compression/displacement to really take advantage of them.

that makes sense.. after installing an intake, exhuast and vafc to change vtec setting. hopefully this will change how the car is running..
Are there any other bolt ons that might make an improvment on this setup...? (ex. FPR, trottle body, etc.)

yes i am pretty sure that is what he means but in all honesty i wouldn't touch shit to do with timing especially to that amount without a tuner present. is the car throwing any codes? before or after it starts falling on it's face? get with someone to hookup/street tune the vafc see how it goes if nothing changes get it tuned. oh and also if it hasn't been done recently a full tune-up and fluid change? maybe some colder plugs? g/l let us know how it is going.

as for bolt ons, a bigger throttle body would help. if you are tuning with a vafc, the fpr is useless. anything you can do to make that motor breathe better will help. you could also use extra compression so a thinner head gasket could help too. the motor MUST be in ship shape before tuning. new plugs, wires, cap rotor, fluids, no CEL's, good compression and correct timing. then just take it to be dyno tuned. no sense in wasting time with a vafc on the street with those cams. at your displacement and compression, the gears need tuning to preserve some compression and boraden the power band as much as possible. youll also get the best vtec point on the dyno as well.

break in time for what? the cams? those you need to call skunk 2 for. i would say 500 miles but they could already be worn in enough.
