Question ARP connecting rod bolts?

Are they necessary on b18c connecting rods? I found these Lightning Motorsports - ARP Rod Bolts for 1.6-1.8L Acura & Honda 9mm - 208-6401 . How much stronger are they over stock ITR connecting rod bolts and do they carry any negative side effects upon installation once torqued?

While I cannot say how much stronger ARP is without a destruct test,
I don't know of anyone displeased with them. As a guess, your stock rods will let go before the ARP's do. Those ARP guys know what they are doing.

............if you run some serious turbo boost, it's cheaper to replace rods and bolts, than to rebuild a blown motor and use new ones the second time around.......-Bob

Ok, that makes sense but isn't there another step to installing them than just popping them in and torquing them down? Is there any machining required after installation?

Do stock rod bolts look like the ARP rod bolts? I'm looking at the pictures of the ARP's and they look identical to my current bolts.

Also, I called up the machine shop where my motor currently is and they told me that when installing ARP rod bolts, the rod ends may get misshaped once they're installed and torqued, causing misalignment and future rod knocking. They recommend that I do purchase them but that they install them so that they can check the big rod end for misalignment once torqued.

Does this make sense? It does to me.

^^^I think they are trying to milk some more money out of u. I would let whoever is building your motor install them. Misalignment could happen with a stock rod bolt if your not careful

I'm building the motor.

It does make sense that they could cause the big ends to become misshaped. ARP suggests that they are torqued then checked for roundness, prior to being installed.
