Sometimes there's a tradeoff with lowering vs rim
diameter and width. I can figure the size relationship
when I have to. It varies by car.

Comparing only these two factors, my experience is that
lowering after careful measuring of a suspension will produce
more performance in cornering
than wide tires on an unlowered car.

I usually lower a car first, then find rims that will fit.
Too often people have brought cars to me that have
wide rims, and nothing can be done to lower it further
without their tires rubbing....my heart goes out to those guys...
they spent their money, sometimes overspent, and now they are stuck with a less than optimal cornering setup......and really hard springs
to preserve tire clearance, don't help a cars street cornering.

My car is dropped 3", but 4" is enough to overcome shock travel on a lot of cars that are street driven with bump stops still in, to keep the suspension from getting beat up.
