B16 tranny quesiton...
I was wondering...what would be the benefits if any for me to get an LS tranny for my B16a1 motor? I know the LS tranny has longer gears and is favored by people running boost. I plan on staying all motor would this tranny be beneficial to me at all?
Would a 1998 LS tranny fit on a B16a1 motor?
Would a B16a1 tranny (s1) fit on a 1998 LS motor?
Just curious...
Thanks
Mike.

b-series fits on a b-series its a simple as that. if you plan on staying all motor i would think about building a custom tranny like which many others have done in the past and still use. your have a shit load of options from type-r gears then add some gsr gears and top it off with a ls 5th for the highway.

as joker said you got many options however we need more info but I will reply with what I know based on assumptions. For the most part B16a1s mostly go in CRXs and 2nd generation integras both cable tranny cars. The 98 tranny is a hydro tranny. If you put the 98 tranny in there you will need a clutch master cylinder the clutch lines (a pain in the ass anybody who has had to run any metal line in a honda engine bay can relate with me on this one) and a couple other parts. Very few people put b16a1s in 5g or 6g civics and tegs because of wiring issues but if you have done this then yes the 98 teg tranny will go right in and your car is already a hydro tranny car so you wont have to worry. As far as why you would do this if you need good gas mileage did a lot of highway driving or had a very long very high torque curve. The last reason is why many turbo cars go with ls trannies because they can stay in their power band for a longer period of time. It would be very very very hard to build an all motor (especially a b16a) that would benefit from a ls tranny I mean very damn hard as in unless you have 12k to sink into a motor and another 5k for tuning alone you better not try it. The ls tranny has no business on a NA b16a unless of course thats all you can afford or you need good gas mileage or want a lower cruising rpms the latter can be accomplished by swapping the 5th gear though. Essentially though a b series tranny will fit a b series motor but be aware some cars a hydro and some are cable while some trannies are hydro and some are cable you need to specify. If anyhting in this post doesnt make sense read it again and again if you dont understand by the 3rd time you read it ask away.

ok I just saw your sig and you have a crx it uses a cable tranny for the clutch that means you can use the ls tranny however you will need to add in the hydro lines the clutch master cylinder misc parts (Im not 100% sure exactly what but little pieces) and you will have poor gearing for your motor therefore I highly recomend you DO NOT get a 98 ls tranny on your b16a1 crx.
