Turbo Cars
I have heard the tranny statement b4...
Is there anyone that can truly explain the gain by swapping from a GSR tranny to the LS one? I assume it has to do with the gear ratios and staying in a gear longer with boost... but what kind of true number differences are made? Are we talking 1/10th off the 1/4 or more like 1sec? Just wondering since my GSR might see some boost in the future...

i dont think the gains are that much significant but it also depends on what you are running 1/4 1/8 autocross etc.
i know the LS is geared shorter compared to the ITR and B16 trannies. not sure what the gsr tranny is like but i know its close to the b16.

btw gsr trannies are great for boost. since there seems to be so many gsr turboes running around im sure youve heard that alot of people (esp. ITRs) like to put in the LS 5th gear to keep the RPMs down during cruising such as on the interstate or etc.
Yet there is no problem with a short final gear and boost. I have always run a B16 trannie and loved it. yea...5th ran a little high but I never had to downshift to pass. She boogied right along with no complaints. It was actually more fun and NO i didnt encounter any overheating problems.
The main advantage of a LS trannie over a B16? You can stay in gear longer but you also might have 1 less shift in the 1320. Whenever I ran the 1/4 mile I was about to hit rev limiter in 4th by the end (13.2@10 and had a bumped the boost I would actually finish the track in 5th .
