Also, as I believe that there is only one reason raising compression to any significant degree should be done, and that is to support more aggressive cams.

My point is, come at it from the other direction. Big cams make power but bleed off compression, so what do you need to maximize power? Answer is more compression. Just raising compression for the sake of compression never made much sense to me. It's part of a strategy to support other elements of the build, imo.

I would decide on cams and then match compression to fit them.
I would like to build a close to 200hp to the wheels street motor so i'm not sure which cams to use..ITR, CTR, and Toda type A's sound good but can this power be achieved shy of 9,000 rpm?

yes it can. i made less than 10 whp away from the 200 whp mark and did not rev to 9k.
also did that with ctr cams...my smaller setup.

just bc the toda type a cams rev to 8800 doesnt mean you have to take them there. i know a reputable guy that used to post on these boards named kenji. he built a b20vtec with around 11.5:1 compression using toda type a cams and made 215
+ at the wheels with gobs of tq....and this was back in the day!

just make sure u choose your parts wisely, assemble correctly, dont cut corners, break in properly, and tune it.

It seems like i'm leaning more towards the B20Vtec side after learning more because it seems like the most bang for your buck if you want to build a 200+ whp and tq street motor.

i remember that. actually i was there when he dynoed it and he made 220 to the wheels. it was in a bronze eg with some real deal mugen seats $$$$ also he had like a 700-1000 header if i remember correctly. yes gobs of torque..his torque was more than my stock b-16 whp

Gobs of torque meaning over 200 to the wheels?

nah, gobs of torque meaning 150+. when i said stock b-16 whp that is what it was a stock b-16 when i was getting into the game. a stock b-16 sees about 160 to the flywheel. it will see about 140- low 150 whp and will see about 105-110 torque on a healthy motor. now its far from stock and\or b-16

yes it will be hard that is why you got to rev it out. shoot its hard enough to get 200 whp much less 200 ft lbs of torque.

its hard to get 200 tq from a K series! lol...if i remember correctly wasnt kenji using a mugen header? hell i dunno. hes a bit older than me i just ran into him at the gym one day n we started talkin n he told me about his old stuff. he used to work for kingmotorsports i believe. lol the guy even gave me a good basemap for my old ls setup that put a couple gsr coupes to shame .

but yea...just goes to show you that you dont need 12.5:1 compression for a good running motor.
