Default A/C Help

1996 Civic EX
I pulled into a parking spot and had the air on while I finished up my call. The RPM went up and then the air quit working, fan still blows, just not cold. So, I check the condensor cooling fan and it is not working either. I found a blown fuse under the hood that is for the condensor fan. I replaced the fuse, and it worked for about ten minutes and blew again. I drove for a while letting the condensor cool down, and actually cleaned it out with an air hose. I put another fuse in and it blew about 2 miles down the road. I changed the relay thinking that may be it (start small and work up), still blew the fuse. I unhooked the fan, and tried a new fuse, blew it again. I unhooked the compressor and replaced the fuse, the fan works but obviously the compressor does not. Hooked up the gauges and it has 225 on the high side, and full of freon. SO...I am inclined to believe it is the compressor. Please chime in and let me know if there is anything else it may be.

sure you dont have a short somewhere causing the fuse to constantly blow? fixing a short beats getting a new compressor.

positive....I already replaced the compressor and it blows 44 degrees inside. Better than new.

more than likely was just the clutch. However the car has just under 100k miles and I got a brand new, not remanufatured compressor, complete with clutch for $239. Thanks to my dad owning a shop.

I had a similar a/c problem. go to Hondahookup.com - Honda / Acura Aftermarket Parts, Accessories, Forums, Photo Galleries, Racing, and more! and you can download just about any honda service manual free. The pinpoint tests walk you right through to the problem. I did it to actually find exactly what wire was fuked up. Awesome site.
