It could be several things:

Does anything at all happen when you turn the key? Does the engine even turn over or is it dead at the ignition?

Is it manual or automatic? If it is a manual maybe your starter relay gave out or maybe the little plastic puck of life on the clutch broke. You will have little plastic chunks on the floor if it did. Very easy to fix.

It also sounds like it could be the main relay. It is located under the dash on the drivers side in the corner. Not easy to get to and be careful because you can break your dash when trying to get to it.

p.s. I am a female too but I don't see what that has to do with anything. Just post up what you need help with, ignore those that aren't helping and pay attention to those who will help.

good luck.

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.

cars (basically) need 3 things to run, fuel, spark and air. the hardest part of fixing any car is figuring out the problem (for an amateur mechanic) i usually like to start by checking the ignition, 88-91 civics are Notoriously bad with their ignition systems.

Remove a spark plug, with it out of the engine plug the wire back into the plug then hold the plug very close to the engine itself (make sure you are not touching any thing metal on the car, only hold the rubber on the spark-plug-wire) and have a friend try to turn on the car. if your ignition is working the way its supposed to, you will see a tiny spark, if you DONT see a spark, try to hold it close to another spot on the engine to make sure you have a good spot, if there is Still no spark then you know its an ignition problem. if you DO have spark, check your other 3 cylinders.

I vote main relay as well. Have you noticed that the car dies or refuses to start mostly when its very hot out, like in the middle of the day for example?

because engines get air without any trouble, and if you have spark in all of your cylinders then you know its a fuel problem, in which case the relay, as the others pointed out, is a likely candidate

i put money on it that if you change the main relay your car will run thats what it sounds like to me.
