Default Breather filter on valve cover/head

Just outta curiosity.. whats the difference between having the breather on that nipple where the hose from the intake connects to the head than actually keeping a hose connected from the intake to the head? just wondering if this is a performance thing or what like what is the point of this? lol

You've just sumbled onto one of the most mysterious questions in all the world of Honda.

Does putting a breather filter on the valve cover breater hurt the engine?

Does the hose push air into the valve cover, as Honda's infamous illustration shows?

Does the valve cover push out oily air to vent the crank, putting it into the intake to be burned with the fuel air?

I still don't know what the Honda engineers were thinking. Probably never will.
Everyone has their own opinion on whether a simple breather filter is OK or not.

Someone needs to do a devinitive test to see if air actually gets pushed into the engine via this breather. I have a hard time imagining that it does, no matter what Honda says. The pressures inside the engine would appear to be too great to let anyting in. Also, why vent to the intake if the plan wasn't to burn oily air?

Anyone with theories out there should pipe in (or out) on this.

Honda tuning did a right up on making more breather tubes to help vent air or something i didnt really understand what the whole deal was but seemed very complicated and no gains but they said that the tube is for pullng air out of the head and recycling it for like emissions once again it may be a myth idk haha

well seeing as people spend hundreds of dollars on serious valve cover ventilation to evacuate as much crank case as possible, i'd have to go with air only going out of the tubes

and the wonder of a PCV valve is that its a one way device, and i've have mine crap out and it blew out my dipstick, indicating pressure

but just put your finger over the hole, or take your oil fill off for a second and put your hand over it

I believe Honda intent is to push air into the valve cover in order to force the oily air out the factory pcv box/valve due to the side in which the factory slash cut is done. The system relies upon the engine vacuum at idle pulling on the pcv valve and then at higher rpms full throttle (no vacuum) to use the velocity of the incoming air on the slash cut tube in the intake pipe to force the breathing. So basically at idle using manifold vacuum and at wide open when there is little manifold vauum using intake velocity.

Honda wasn't really designing around 12:1 compression na motors going to 9k+ or cars running 30 lbs of boost. In those cases the crankcase builds up too much pressure that this system no longer works and that is why on those apps a crankcase breather system either veting to atmosphere or being mechanically ventilated by other means.

plus one
the valvecover is connected to the intake hose to pull the air Out of the valvecover to releve pressure faster at higher Rpms i try to always keep mine connected thats why when you put your finger over the hole thats on your intake tub its like a Vac.

well im leaving my hose connected.. the reason why is cuz I installed an ebay air intake last night but the stock intake tube that connects the nipple on the intake to the nipple head wouldnt mount up for anything.. I just rigged it up for now but when I have time Im just gonna get some new tubing.
