yupp you can make power without vtec as well, but if your building it might as well do a vtec head. I just built my y7 and made the mistake to not use a y8 head. But i still made good power so i will leave it like that for now

yeah single cam non vtec is slow as crap, especially with the ac running. single cams do have alot of potential, and have real good gas mileage, its just a matter of what u want to do and what ur pockets can handle.

sohc vtec is over rated. just dont use a y7 head flow like junk. a ef hatch on homemade turbo is running 11.3 on a z6/y7 head vitara setup 25psi on a holset. stock si trans

y7 heads are good too, just dont use the y7 intake manifold, use a y8 intake manifold, just port and polish the head, call crower they can do custom camshafts for any application. I have a custom grind camshaft from crower, I dont know if they still do custom grinds but when I bought mines they did, that was like 5 or 6 years ago.

Oh yeah, one more thing, it has better torque curve's then the vtec heads.
