Default tig welding crash course needed help please

Ok guys my boss bought a miller econotig welder 220v ,I weld on mig but this thing I can make it weld right, I seen the cd like ten times ,set up the machine the way it said and is not melting the aluminum even in the highest amp set up , we got the 75/25 argon (that what I was told it uses) I am trying to make my oil catch can and it doesn't work when it start to melt it a little is like is burning the aluminum . the only feature I can weld with it is the stick with aluminum rods but I don't like it to much the way it looks . I don't know if we are using the right tungstent and I can even make the damn ball on the tip on the tugnstent? maybe wrong setting I don't know ,any help will be really appreciatted , Thanks....omar

using rods is the best way to go, just practice with them

and when you put a new tungston in, just hit the foot pedal and the tip (slightly ground to a point) should round its self after a second or two, otherwise somethings wrong

make sure you do a cleaning pass before you weld whatever you're going to, it cleans the metal of all impurities and makes night and day difference on weld quality

PS: the base metal you're welding *should* metal a little, you're just adding filler metal with the rod, not actually using it to transfer electric current

never used a wirefeed TIG, so no advice on using it...

hope this helps a little

75/25 is not good to use on aluminum. Always tig with straight argon. I usually weld at around 100 amps A/C when I do catch cans. Don't worry about the tungsten too much, just use a red 3/32 and you will be good to go. The red won't really ball up like the green and it seems to weld better.
