Default dropped a cylinder + white smoke. HELP PLEASE!!!

i pulled the plug wire and #2 is not running but it has spark. then it started running hot. i let it cool down and added water. let it run for about 20 minutes and it didnt get hot again but there is tons of white smoke(steam) coming out of the exhaust. so im guessing the headgasket? i dont know any way of checking this other than pull the head off.

is there a way to determine what happen w/o pulling the head?

should i change the plug and see if it fires?

any advice is much appreciated thanks in advance to everyone!!!!

There are relatively cheap testers that can detect combustion products in the coolant system. I had one and it worked really well. You can get them from NAPA.

Yes compression/leakdown tests will tell you if the HG is blown or not.

Or as stated you can use a Hydrocarbon tester, but Id suggest the compression and leakdown tests over the hydrocarbon test.

I found oil in my coolant overflow tank when the headgasket started to go on my coupe.

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.

you can use a hand vacuum pump, connect it to a vacuum port, a brake booster its a good one, let the engine idle and if u have a healthy engine should read steady about 17 in/hg if not u should have regular drop, check the haynes manual 4 how to use it, its a nice easy tool to have

i did a comp. test and it had good comp. all the way through. but the temp goes up and down after driving for a while( 30 mins or so) but not that much, like just above the temp icon on the gauge.

but there is oil on the overflow tube. its also using a little bit of water after each drive. but there doesnt look like there is water on the dipstick at all.

still though...why wouldnt the number 2 cyl. fire? it has good spark and i changed the plugs.

could be the injector is clogged or messed up and no fuel is getting to the #2 cylinder
