Can't Take It With You...

Headlights
I pulled my dash out the other day and all I did was take out the bolts and unplug all the harnesses, well when I plugged the light switch back on the steering column the running lights came on, when I flipped the switched the headlights didnt come on, the running lights remain on when the switch is plugged in even if I flip them off and the headlights still wont come on. Anyone know why?
