Default Need Help Tr....

I have a 96 Civic sedan with a d16y8 block and d16y7 head. Something is wrong with the motor I think, I dunno, but its been making weird noises, kinda like the noise a washing machine makes when its washing clothes, but like a plastic bag is being whirled around in a circle. it makes this noise while Im driving. It has oil, I had the transmission checked and it has oil too.

I just dont know what to do. It is my daily driver, and my only means of transportation atm. Im wiling to pay for a comparable swap that can go in to make the car drive, in trade for the block/cash. as I know the d16y8 block is a vtec block.

Is there anyone out there can can help me figure out what this thing is doing?

PM me and I might be able to meet up with you and listen to it. maybe I can give you an idea of what is really going on.

it sounds like your brake pads are worn. my car made that sound when the pads wore down to the indicator part. it is more pronounced at low speeds right? if so my guess would be the brake pads need replacing. unless there are other symptoms that is. check out the brakes and let us know.

I live in St. Petersburg, just off MLK and Roosevelt, about 2-3 miles over the Gandy Bridge...

I notice the noise more from 2-3k RPM, and before, I only heard it slightly at 45mph, now I can hear it up to 80 mph....

Seriously it sounds like the noise a washing machine makes when its in the wash cycle

hmm, maybe brakes, wheel bearing, or possibly you threw a belt in your tire or bent a rim. I would guess somewhere in that area. i do not know what it would be in the engine to make that sound and still run properly. when you hit the brakes and come to a complete stop does it make noises (different or the same) or does the sound stop completely? hit any potholes/dips/speed bumps lately?

I vote wheel bearing or wheel/tire related

when im driving the car and I disengage the clutch the noise stops, so I doubt its a wheel bearing or wheel/tire related.

Also, when Im decelerating, I can here it very pronounced from about 3k till near 2k...

So this guy John that works down the street from where I live, took a look at it, heard the noise, but doesn't think its engine/trans. related.

Im perplexed cause I still dont know what is making the noise. He thinks its either the exhaust or shift linkage rattling some sort, but it sounds to me that its something that rotates thats making the noise, so I dunno....
