Default noise from front driver's side wheel ?

when driving my 01 teg, i am hearing some noise that sound like they are coming from the driver's side front wheel area. i can only hear it at low speeds. its like a clicking and grinding noise. it doesnt do it all the the time either. it doesnt make any noise when turning. it only does this when im slowing down and when starting out. once i get about about 30mph, i no longer hear it.

ive been told my axle was bad or its my hub bearing.

any thoughts guys ??

Could also be something stupid like the brake dust shield is bent and touching the rotor, sounds like a wheel bearing though. Jack the front of the car up and grab the tire at the top and bottom and check for play. Grab the wheel by the sides and check for play:

If there is side to side play and no top and bottom play you have worn ball joints or steering rack inner joints.

If there is top and bottom play you have a bad wheel bearing.

A bad wheel bearing will also have side to side play but bad ball joints will not cause top and bottom play. This is typical for all front ends not just Honda's.

i have no play when i shake the wheel from top to bottome.

when i do from side to side, i only get play with the right side only and it makes a clunking noise.

Have someone else shake the wheel and you need to be looking for which ball joint has play. It will either be lower ball joint, upper ball joint, outer tie rod, or inner tie rod (steering rack). It should be pretty obvious but it helps to have someone else shake the wheel.

It could be that your brake rotor is loose. I had the same problem with the front wheel on my 96 civic coupe, it would only make noise when i was accelerating or slowing down. try taking the wheel off and check the screws that hold the brake rotor on.

i dont really know what i am looking at when i under there. i was able to move the wheel and look in there and i noticed one of the bars on the top was moving.

I don't understand your statement.

At the top of the steering knuckle there is a ball joint that connects to the upper control arm.

At the bottom of the steering knuckle the lower ball joint connects to the lower control arm. Around the middle the tie rod connects with another ball joint to the steering knuckle.

The other side of the tie rod connects to the steering rack at the inner tie rod joint.

Which one has play?
