dont you run a wire to the speed sensor? i really have no idea, ive never done it. but im sure just going to google could find you a quick answer with pictures or a diagram

this is just from going off what i remember when i was a ricer hooking up big tachs in my honda.
green=blue wire on the distributor
red=constant power
white=power when the lights are on
black=ground
theres open spots on the fuse block onder the dash for power sources.

cause if you have a tach your a ricer 
consdering the dx civics do not have tachs and tachs are useless tools arent they dip shit. since the stock tach are off by 2-400rpms.
