Default werid vtec issue

ok so i know i have a bad connection on my speed sensor that makes the speedo not read sometimes. when this happens i cant go past 4k bc thats where the 2 step is set at. however, once the engine light comes on, i can go past 4k AND vtec works....now correct me if im wrong but i thought that if the vss didnt work, vtec didnt either. anyone kno what the deal is here??? im baffled by this one. thanks in advance.

It sounds like your ecu is chipped. Considering that it is, your vtec speed check is probably disabled.

yes it is chipped. sorry i forgot to mention that. so if that is the case, if i have the 2 step removed then i will not need a vss to make vtec work?

Theoretically you are correct, however I have seen issues with a VSS code being thrown & vtec not wanting to engage regardless of the fact that the VSS speed check is disabled. (Rare but has happened on cars running crome).

Cars running ectune, hondata, neptune have never had an issue with vss speed check totally working 100%

Thanks,
John Vega
