Anyone see the new issue of SCC?-- Vortech equipp
SCC tested 6 or so supercharged cars in this months issue. One of em was a Vortech equipped Civic Si. This thing was peaky! Max power and max torque were both at redline! It put down 272 wheel hp at 10 psi. Pretty good numbers! This kit was CLEAN. All polished parts and an air to water aftercooler. Looks like pricing is a tad under $4k.
Then it promtply ran a 14.2 @98 mph in the 1/4?!?!? Somethings fishy......Must be spinning the whole way down the track.....
Representing the supercharged VW crowd was a Z-Engineering equipped Jetta VR6. These kits are major dissapointments as it only put down about 212 wheel hp and ran 15.0@98 mph. Awful weak when a Vortech VR6 can put down about 50 hp more and run low-mid 13s with a little tuning an exhaust good cool air and some slicks. Well all the Vortech VR6s except ACMEs anyway.

I believe the owner resides at clubsi.com. He states SCC are the ones that dragged the car hence the sorry timeslip. He claims better times were to be had if they had not dragged on a slick airport runway. I think hes just making excuses. BTW Larry what does the torque curve look like? Im willing to bet its equally as peaky...and that motor is peaky as it is already.

Ok John heres the scoop:
I took a quick digital pic of the dyno plot in Sport Compact Car for the Vortech V5 and aftercooled equipped Civic Si. The car also had Comptech headers and Apex N1 exhaust. Boost was reported as 10 psi max.
Vortech Si Dyno
The baseline for the stock car was 142 hp @ 7500 rpm and 102 ft lb @ 7200 rpm. The modified car made 272 hp @ 7900 rpm and 181 ft lb @7900 rpm. The reported quarter mile was 14.4@98.6 mph.
How does this dyno plot compare to a turbo Civic Si at the same boost?
There are a few other supercharged cars in the mag this month as well (Z-Engineering VR6 TRD Solara Neon SRT Vortech Cougar). Ill see if I can get some quick shots of their dynos and write up a brief summary as well.

The TRD Solara looks VERY impressive spinning the rollers to 240+ hp at only 4 psi of boost! The Z-Engineering charged VR6 is quite weak at 212 hp as a comparbaly equipped Vortech car (mine!) made about 50 hp more at the ground.
The Neon SRT looks promising for production just as tested. Looks like the sport compact market just got a new rocket entry.
The Cougar continues to disappoint. Not much else to say there......

heh just wait til they bring out the smaller pulleys for the TRD S/C!
the smallest pulley will boost 10psi...estimated hp figures close to 300!
but alot of the guys on the camryman forum dont believe our engines can run that much boost without some sort of internal upgrades.
that neon looks pretty impressive putting down similar times to the solaras times. but its already at 11psi to get there. and the solara is only at 4!
well those neons are lighter too
the smallest pulley will boost 10psi...estimated hp figures close to 300!
