Do you need a valve adjustment or valve lash adjustment. Valve lash is easy all you need is a manual feeler gauges and patience. Special adjustment tool is optional Ive always just used a 10mm deep socket and a flat head screw driver. When you do it yourself you dont have to worry about someone half-a$$ing it.

KJ is right do it yourself...well as long as you know what the hell you are doing. If you get someone else to do it itll cost you around $250 which in my opinion is a rip off. One thing KJ didnt mention is that youll need to do the adjust with the engine cold...that means leaving it overnight and working on it in the morning. Also buy a 12buck gasket before you start and a gasket scrapper wouldnt be bad either. Bleh basically here is all youll need:
- RTV sealant
- Feeler gauge (I bought the most amazing set at Auto Zone...they make me drool)
- Torque wrench (expensive if you dont own)
- New valve cover gasket
- assorted sockets and screwdrivers
- cold car
- a long plastic rod (stick in spark plug hole so you know when piston is coming to TDC)

Hey Bill...at what spev did u adjust your valves to...i looked in my manual. it says .002-.004INCHES
but when i measure my gap before i`d adjust it it was very loose(i`d say around .009 or so and my engine is only 15k miles on it..hmmm...oh well...anyways my feeler guage is in mm readings and the manual states in inches so my problem is...is there a difrence? im soo confused....help me out if ya can...THANKS

First off what car do you have?
If you are driving a civic then .02-.04 is way off. Maybe you misread it? Maybe you were looking at the mm readings instead of inches.
Anyways for a D-series engine valve lash should be .007-.009intake and .009-.011exhaust. If you want to be certain just check under the hood and look at the sticker there. You can actually set your valve lash a little tighter than that if you feel inclined to tune but Id be careful about doing that incase you burn an exhaust valve.

Ahhhhhh..Mr.Bill is a LIFE SAVER...nice to know mechanics on this board. Yeah i drive a civic D16 ..damm i`d adjusted mines to .004 that must be the reason why it wasnt running right...but anyways i need a new motor..
Thank again Bill
