well if your original rad cap was missing the rubber pieces you was lowering your boiling point cause the cap was not holding the pressure. this wall cause you car to get hotter way quicker. did you let the fan cycle on a few times with the cap off? you got to do this ( let the fan cycle on) cause thats about when the thermostat open and lets water flow through the system and cools the engine. so when the thermostat open and water flows through the system the air bubbles will escape with the rad cover off.

five times is more than enough. so you got it or think it is fixed? under half way and a little more than quarter way should be normal.

Have you done anything to the car recently that involved removal or replacement of any cooling or heater hoses? When it is overheating blowing out the overflow, grab the bottom rad hose and see if it is hot or cold.

your temp sendor might be bad,snd that would cause it to send a bad reading or the rad cap is bad like others said before. also you said one of the sensors was bad right? if that was true i would have replaced them all just to be safe... also where did you buy the thermostat? Ive bought a bad one before from advance and i had kinda the same problem as you.. so i just spent the money on a mugen thermostat and it works fine.
