You can't even buy parts for a grand.
$450 for pistons
$300 for rods
$100 to $200 for bearings
$150 for gaskets and seals
$120 for new oil pump
$80 for new water pump
$100 for new timing belt and tensioner
$120 for ARP's
That is over $1500 right there in just parts. So I'd say save up at least $3000 if you want the engine rebuilt by someone who is actually going to do it right.

I acually depends on what engine he is trying to rebuild and weather he wants to build it himself...if its a single cam I have built em for cheap...

I still wouldn't do anything less on a single cam. A motor is a motor and if you are going to do it, make sure it is right. If you are going to half ass it then don't even bother and just run boost on stock motors.
