Default Civic problem

hi im new to honda, dont have a lot of experience in cars at all, but i bought a 2000 civic ex that has a d16z6 in it and it had a turbo taken off of it before it was sold. the kid needed money for rent bills etc. so he sold the cat-back and all the turbo parts and then sold the car. the car runs extremely slow and extremely loud. i was told the car was slow because the timing is off, which it is set up for a turbo, so i need to put a turbo on it "for it to run right", because if i were to adjust the timing i'd have to take out alot of the internals. The engine is built it far as i know new pistons, cams atc., it has injectorsI know very little about the car, was told it was a b-series, but through my own research found out it was a d...so i cant trust to much of what i was told, all i can say is im ready to turbo this baby whithin a couple of months because im sick of all the noise w/ no power whatsoever, now someone is telling me that to get the car running na all i need to do is put stock injectors back in and have it tuned, i want to turbo it but for right now if i can get it running right i'd be alot better off, so i need to know if this is true and any recommendations u may have, i'll take em, someone please help!, lol!

thanks
Jason

wow. Man your best bet is just get yourself a nice clean swap, like a B16 or LS and start from scratch. That is what i would do anyway.

if the car was indeed built correctly then we can assume that it was tuned correctly which could explain why it does not run good now without the turbo, the car is probably running very rich because the air/fuel maps and timing are setup for forced induction. however, if this kid was a total douche and lied about the engine then there is a good chance that it was never built correctly in the first place and the engine could just be ragged out from being beat up on so much, my best guess is that this is the case because 1. the guy lied to you and 2. not many people will put a whole lot of money into a D series. no offense to Honda owners but some are to quick to want to just throw a turbo on a un-tuned, un-built engine and go out racing everything they can. if I was you and had enough money I would look for a cheap engine swap to start with a clean slat.

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.

the motor runs fine i have no stalls or anything drives fine. I just have shit for power and burn gas up, with the gas here being so expensive i would rather have the thing running right so i'm not putting so much in the tank. I wouldn't mind paying so much at the pump if i were getting the power it supposedly has that is why i'm asking....if i swap the motor to something else what else would i have to change (ecu, alt? etc.)

thanks guys i was thinking of just swaping it like you're saying but just wanted to get a little more info

You live near me so if you want you can bring it buy my house and I can look it over for you. Also I can check you timing and adjust if needed. Shoot me a PM and LMK.

you can put another d-series in it. you need the complete engine minus the transmision and you will need an wcu also being that the d16z6 is vtec and a d16y7 is non vtec... you should be able 2 get an ecu and engine 4 500 off of the honda for sale forum here...
