Default Error code P1456 on '01 civic lx

wifes car threw this code. looked it up, on
Honda OBD-II Trouble Codes
it reads
P1456
EVAP Emission Control System Leak Detected (Fuel Tank System)

does this mean it lost pressure somehow? she says she always makes the gas cap click at least 3 times. (heard thats the rule somewhere)

thanks guys

check the gas cap again... that solves 95% of the EVAP codes

Check the condition of the cap, and make sure it is an oem cap also.

its an OEM cap, the light is still on, i've put it on a couple times now. it looks like the seal is split on either side. is it supposed to be like this? its like each cut is exactly 180* from each other.

if this is the problem, will the light just turn off when fixed or do i have to clear it?

thanks again

I know on the newer cars it takes a few days for the light to reset itself

doesn't take a few days or weeks like most people tell people. Basically you let your car cool down overnight and then in the morning with normal driving condtions and certein enable criteas the pcm will do a system monitor of the evaportive emmsions. If all passes then the light will go off. Its better that you just have it checked at a honda dealer. There really aren't any known isssues with those cars for 1456 or tank side leaks. I would have someone check it out and look at if any the failing tid or $ that will let give a general idea what the problem is. A good enough scan tool or the honda dealers that use a HDS to check it out.

Those enabled criteas can be meet if you know what driving condtions it wants you to do.

Pull up the OEM manual.. (Hondahookup.com - Honda / Acura Aftermarket Parts, Accessories, Forums, Photo Galleries, Racing, and more!) and search that code, see if you can find the oem troubleshooting.. good luck. -Ben
