Default first honda... need some help ** rep will be given **

** Pics are up **

Hey honda tech I will be getting my first honda within the next 2-3 days and I have a few questions.

First.. some info.
93 hatch, CX
D16A7 motor, 5 speed tranny
I don't know too much about the car yet, but i will within the next few hours.

Now, the questions.
I guess the tranny in this car is shot. 1st and 2nd are ok. 3rd, 4th, and 5th are shot. My question - what kind of tranny will I need for this car? I heard I will need a hydro tranny. Does anyone here have one for sale?

Next, the motor has about 101,xxx miles. Its completely stock to my knowledge, and Im wondering - what are the pros and cons to this motor?

Just looking for some basic info. Also, what does the B, D, ect. stand for, and what are the differences between them? And, what are the differences between the dx, cx, eg, ef, ect.?

Thanx in advance for the help, and rep will definately be given out.

B series are twin cam.
D is single cam..
cx is the lightest model of the civic.
eg is a 92 95 civic hatch i believe.
ef is an 88 91 civic.

If you take care of that motor it will pretty much last forever. D-series are SOHC Daily Driver champs. B series motors are DOHC engines that come in Integras, CR-V's, some Del Sol's, and 99-00 Civic Si's. The K series is Honda's new DOHC Vtec motor that replaced the B series, which can be found in RSX's, new CR-V's, TSX's, 02-present Civic Si's, and so on..
All of these motors come in a ton of different flavors, you will learn.

For Civics,
DX and CX are the two lowest trim level options. No power anything, lightweight, basic.
LX and EX are the upper trim models, easy.
Si (sport injected) are the sporty model Civics.
EF = 88-91
EG = 92-95
EK = 96-00

90-93 Integra = DA
94-01 Integra = DC

If you want to know anything specific just ask, but someone else answer his tranny question!

I'd say just swap the tranny out with a d16z6 tranny.. If your not sure where the Z6 trannys come from.. it comes from the 92-95civic SI or the 92-95civic EX.

Thanks guys. Also, as far as the tranny question goes, I`ve heard of cable trannys and hydro trannys. Im sure the hydro trannys are better.. but then again I don't know. Also, I know these cars are easy to work on. I will be doing a lot of my own work, so what are some fairly simple things to do so I can get this car started on its course?
