Are we talking the VTEC mech itself or a VTEC head vs a non VTEC head? If it's the later a VTEC head will outflow a non VTEC head every day of the year. So there is no downs to having a VTEC head instead of a non VTEC head

there was a shop, i cant remember the name, but either way, they built a LS turbo and dyno'd it. they then proceeded to do a ls/vtec on the same motor with the same boost, the vtec motor made 109 more whp. Vtec > nonVtec any day.

What if there was headwork done? Still the same outcome? Can you port a non vtec head to the same specs as a ported vtec head??

I don't port heads for a living so I can not say for sure. I would say no from what I have seen. I will however speak to someone I know that does port heads for a living. I have seen one high hp LS dyno that impressed me (powerband, peak power, etc) but the torque wasnt there due to the head being more efficient. Not to mention the rocker arms just kind of sit there. They're not held by an arm/bar like VTEC heads

+1

vtec head will outflow no vtec anyday and will be great for boost. on the other hand if your poor like me the cost of a vtec head over a non vtec head is a huge difference. 50 for ls head 500 for vtec. if you somehow manage to fuck up your non vtec head, so what, grab another no biggie. but if money is no issue, vtec ......without question.

Spoke with him briefly. This is what I got from him

I will be honest I have never flowed a LS but I think that would be a correct assumption
I expected him to have never flowed an LS head due to lack of LS owners wanting to work over their heads. Below is a couple pictures of his recent work on a Nissan Patrol head
