SOHC VS. DOHC gas mileage
Like you said with your engine running fine and everything, I'm sure if you do an accurate calculation it will return mileage in the low 20's. I was incredibly suprised when I saw the numbers I was getting on my motor but the odo doesnt lie!
There's no beating those SOHC's in MPG contests though, they're gas sippers!

well are you ragging on it all the time?
is that with ac?
because these questions does become factors in this problem,
but still in that case, u should still be getting more than 18 mpg
i can get 28-30 mpg even with ac and abuse!
maybe theres a problem u may need to discover
also this can be caused by
1. need of tune up
2. nasty diry filter
but still should be making more than 18 mpg
ttt

read my other posts please I'll repeat....I made a gross assumption!!!!!!! those numbers i'm sure aren't nowhere near accurate.....especially since i don't even fill up that much

well do what i do, fill up, reset trip odometer, drive around till ya need gas, then fill up again. then divide the mileage by how much fuel you had to put in. i mean my damn 4.6L 5000# truck gets as good gas mileage as your underrating.
displacement means VERY VERY LITTLE in terms of fuel mileage. there are 7 litre engine still cranking out 25+mpg. and the corolla is by no means the most fuel efficient car out there. its up there for sure, but it isnt the most efficient.
you cannot compare 2 engines based upon displacement for the purposes of fuel consumption in this case. your essentially ignoring the other, very important, parts of the equation. vehicle weight, gear ratio, converter slippage, drag coefficient, drivetrain loss, rotational mass, accessory drags, brake specific fuel consumption, cam profiles, timing, fuel atomization, and so many other things will contribute to it.
for the most part, if this kid with the turbo ex drives around normal and not with a heavy foot he shouldnt notice any difference. the low load/rpm fuel tables shouldnt be affected because there is no need for any more fuel than prior to turboing the car as it isnt in boost, he still essentially has the same car setup prior to putting the turbo kit on as far as vacuum driving is concerned. the only time his fuel consumption will change is when he gets into boost and there is extra fuel being dumped. that is it.
I'm sorry but it's hard for me to believe your 9 year turbo 1.8L gets more gas mileage that a brand new engine of the same displacement in a corolla that has been rated time after time as the most fuel efficient car years in a row.....

Now that is bullshit and also SIG material.....lol
OK now first off all i decided to be realistic when posting this thread. There is no way in hell you get 30+ MPG on a turbo eg. a brand new corolla gets around 30 - 38 MPG, so what you're saying is your turbo 9 year old 1.6L engine gets just as much or more gas mileage than a brand new stock 07 corolla with a 1.6L.? I think you might want to re-think those numbers chief.....
Now before the thread gets flooded with people making outrageous claims like mentioned before with absolutely no proof, i'll say this. this right here was a meager estimation, without me grossly exaggerating. I'm sure if I was more precise in my calculations i could get at least 25+ MPG as an accurate number. I fill my gas tank up once a week for 25 bucks and drive an average of about 35-40 Miles a day stop and go ALL CITY with the AC on. Now i don't know what cars you have but 40 miles back and forth stop and go with ac blasting all the time and only having to fill up once a week aint bad IMO......

I got 40 mpg in my turbo crx with jdm dohc zc.I thought my gas gauge was broken but i never ran out of gas.I did alot of highway driving and only thing i can think of is the throttle was open less due to the efficiency of the motor with boost. When i deturboed it and sold the turbo kit the badass gas mileage dropped so there was only only one thing missing that gave it better gas mileage.Gas mileage depends on weight of the car, driving habits, and its efficiency.
