Default Royal Purple MT fluid

There is also a discussion on Honda-tech.com
I am getting mixed reactions. I lover there oil, but I was wondering if anyone is using this? And if so did you mess anything up?

I am not concerned with weather or not you fixed your grinding problem but more if you felt in difference in the feel of the tranny.

alright, 1st off...if there is a grinding problem...a fluid change will not fix the damage already done to the gear or synchro whichever the case may be.

also, it isnt going to change the feel of the shifter. the only thing externally that will is the linkage itself and the shifter assembly.

I don't mean shifting.

and if you have a slight grind in your tranny synchromesh does help that.

probably because its thicker and adds friction which will bring the gear up to speed slightly quicker..but the synchro is already worn at that point. the fluid is just a temporary band aid.

and if you didnt mean shifter...what else is there to feel about the tranny?

You can feel the difference. A trans that shifts smoothly without grinding, "feels" better than one that requires more force and grinding to swap gears.
A new set of honda syncros on a freshly rebuilt trans feels better and shifts with less force with syncomesh fluid than standard motor oil. There is no question about it in my experience. I understand it helps shifting with badly worn syncros as well, though obviously it doesn't "heal" them.

well there is your problem...why are you running motor oil in your tranny? i dunno about your trannies, but i run ATF in my 6spd.

Actually, it's not a problem at all. You are right, however, when you suggest that you don't know about Honda trannies. OEM spec for the trans is 10-30 or 10-40 SF/SG.

..baffling.. thats so odd that they would run a multi viscocity lubricant.
