Default Compression Question...

I have a D16Y8 with high compression JE pistons, eagle rods, blah blah blah blah bolt ons etc. The engine dyno'd at only 111 whp, and everytime it runs, the spark plug wires are pushed up away from the plugs.

Is this a seal problem with the plugs? If so will new plugs fix this?

Could this be whats robbing my horsepower?

Thanks for the help.

MSD wires. If vibration is causing it, I still have the issue of missing HP, rediculous amounts of shiny toys went into this engine, and it should not be making less than 150. Senior Vega from Phearable.net tuned the car, and he was also surprised at the low numbers. His guess was comp loss.

Also, the engine was thrown together in a bit of a hury, so Im not entirely sure the timing is all correct. How exactly would I go about completely reseting cam timing?

MSD wires suck you need to go to honda and buy a set of stock ones.

this is far from true msd are one of the best wires proven..but that would have nothing todo with it....useing that stock cams is a BIG factor i mean come on your just boosted you compression like 3Points with that little lift cam still pulling in the same air/fuel there are many things to check but i would not get my hopes up just throwing in high copmpression pistons

Ill look into getting a Skunk2 cam.

Do you think stage 1 or 2 would be better? god forbid stage 3. Ze-ro gas mileage.

1. If plug wires are blowing out, could be a leak past the valve cover seals.
2. If John tuned it, I'm sure your timing is OK or he would have said something.
3. If you jumped your compression up significantly and you are on the stock cam, that could be your main power issue. Cams and pistons should be viewed as a package. You can lose power by your engine working against itself with high compression and too little cam to bleed off compression. In short, your motor may be straining to put the squeeze on the air/fuel, killing crank inertia and robbing power. This is why dynamic compression is a more important number than static.
Longer duration, bigger lift cams will allow some compression to bleed back into the intake on the compression stroke.
Think of it this way: you don't boost compression to get more compression for its own sake, you boost compression because you need more of it to run bigger cams. You left that part out of your upgrade package. Your engine is saying, WTF?
