I just put a Z6 motor in my CRX race car and I"am keeping the car OBD0 so I was just going to put vtec on a switch but I'am not really sure I was wondering if anyone who has done this before could help me out....I'am like do you have to use the vtec pressure switch or not or can I just run a wire from the seliond to a switch and be done or what?......Thanks alot guys!

I'm curious. Why do you want your VTEC activation/deactivation on a switch?

So you want to ghetto rig a "race car". Wire the car to obd1 and do it right. Even if the solenoid is activated and physically vtec engages you won't have the fuel or timing maps to make it worth it.

Maybe he is going to wire his VTEC switch to a switched input on the AEM EMS

I do dirt circle track racing...I was just going to put it on a pedal switch so when the pedal is to the floor it will be in vtec and when I'am off the gas it will be out of vtec!......So your saying that OBD0 vtec isn't very strong?...Can I get my ECU chipped or tuned to make it better?....Thanks for your help guys!

The concept you are not understanding is that vtec does not make power at any rpm. You want vtec to engage at the best crossover point between the two cam profiles.

Vtec engagement is rpm dependant & can be manifold pressure dependent when using aftermarket eprom editing software.

You could have the car tuned to get the most performance out of it, but it would be pointless unless the motor has a lot of modifications that would cause it to need to be tuned.
