Default p28 redline / cel ?

Can a CEL alter the stock 7200 redline of a virgin p28? I know it's not the ecu, just for the record.

If it is throwing a code such a vtec sol. or press. sensor, it can alter the redline, and go into almost a sort of limp mode.

Various issues with a vehicle could cause a phantom revlimit of sorts.

A bad ecu throwing a constant MIL regardless of the service connector being connected could also do this.

I don't understand the point of this thread.
Fix the MIL/CEL and proceed from there.

Ok, no more MIL/CEL (fixed). I have tried two different virgin p28's and both allow redline to go past 7200. I stopped at 7500rpm because of potential valve float on stock springs.

Could my OEM tachometer be off the mark by that much?

Yes considering the ecus are supposedly oem.
I have seen an aem tach be off by up to 800 rpms.

Yes, the ecu's appear to be virgin inside. Wow - off by 800+/-!

Thanks John.

vance..going through same thing on melissas coupe....no matter what ecu...p28 p30 p72 p06...all the same thing....hooked up external tach(autometer) and is revving to correct rpm unlike stock tach, which would be either 6800 and sometimes like 8000...depending on outside temp...but always stock rev limit on autometer....just figured id let u know, at least im not the only one with this prob...lol
