DO NOT USE PAINT STRIPPER to get a good finish you are gonna have to sand it down to bare metal.. and if you wanna believe macco that they take everything off that is your choice, but personally I wouldn't risk it. Have you ever seen a macco job? They don't mask or take off anything.
when you change the color of the car they do. when i went there there was 2 cars that were being finished. 1 was taped off b.c they kept it the same color and the other they still had the door panels off the weather stripping the rear window the outside door handles the head lights the tail lights and had the carpet pulled back quite a bit

+1 to crappy maaco overspray. a customer came to my store once, he had macco change the color on his car from white to green. when i walked out to look at his car to see what was wrong w/it i couldnt hold in the laughter. as i walked up i saw the muffler and wheel wells had bad overspray. then he opened the door to pop the hood, door jam was still white. then i saw the bumper was chipping. then i opened the hood and his valve cover and hoses and everything had overspray too. i looked at him and asked "lemme guess, macco paint job?"
at which point he confirmed it. thats not the first customer i've seen w/thier car like that from macco. thats pretty much the norm from what i've seen. if i had to get a macco paint job bc i couldnt afford a good one i would keep the same color so its at least not as noticable. good luck though and i hope it turns out well for you!

paint jobs, unfortunately, fall into the category of "you get what you pay for"...
that being said, get what you can afford.
as a note, however, i did a front end conversion on my civic, and i had maaco spray the hood, bumper, and fenders as individual pieces that i had prepped, and they all turned out pretty good, $150 for all. so while the quality of the work is on par with the price, at least the paint is holding up ok... no chips, fades, orange peel, etc...

If you do what I said and prep the car yourself ten it won't be a half bad paint job. Remember Macco makes their money with quantity not quality. The paint shipping only occurrs because the car was not propperly prepped (sanded down before the paint to give the fresh paint something to stick to, didn't use way and grease remover etc.). Painting cars is one of the things I do for a living so trust me I know. The paint macco uses isn't great of course but it's not all that bad, the reason macco paint jobs don't last is because the prep work hasn't been done correctly. the painters at macco however normally spray pretty well since like I said they deal with quantity and practice does make perfect. Sodo what Itold you and I guarantee you you won't have a half bad paint job, don't and trust me you'll be sorry you were lazy.
yeah i planned on doing all the body work myself since i know how to do it all. and like i said when i was there there was 2 cars just getting done that still had all the parts of so i know they take them off b?c i seen it. but thanks for all the help
