no that is not true. if you put motor oil in a transmission is will destroy itself.

i recommend AT THE LEAST you use OEM honda MTF or ATF, depending on manual or auto.

some people prefer, or use because they have some noise, aftermarket fluid made to help synchros stand up to the abuse, such as GM synchromesh or royal purple's synchromax (both for manual trannys), and im sure there are equivalent counterparts for automatics as well.

my firend is a certified acura mechanic and at the dealership they use regular motor oil in manual tranny's. I never have but who know's. it's up to you i would be safe and just call a honda dealer and see what they recommend.

you are telling me the Acura dealership puts motor oil in manual transmissions?

please give me your friends name so i can have him fired.

there is no way in hell that acura DOESNT used their own MTF in every transmission they service.

I agree with you 100 percent.. I have a couple friends that work at Honda and they only use there tranny fluids (MTF ATF) for the trannys... Its very inexpesnive to do it right... I think I paid like 12-14 dollars for 3 quarts. I would much rather have the peace of mind knowing i did it right with the right fluid.

Definately go get some MTF or ATF, its fairly inexpensive and its definately a good peice of mind knowing you have it. I think it only takes right at 2 bottles, but I would go ahead and get a 3rd to save yourself a trip.

depending on the condition of your tranny i would go with honda mtf/atf. the gm sychromesh i have heard that it is a bit too thin for straight use, and some choose to mix it with honda mtf to prevent it form messing up their trannies. personally i just use honda/acura oem mtf fluid and have had no problems, grinding or otherwise. and this was on a 10+ year old transmission. hope that helps.

by the way, anyone know if the honda and acura mtf is the same with a different bottle, i have always had it done and so havent personally compared the bottles. just curious.

yeah i was pretty sure it was the same. i wonder though, why dont acura and honda just give up the game and create a honda/acura dealer. is there a reason they cant? or just to still give the illusion that they are different (like lincoln and ford or lexus and toyota or infinity and nissan) to the average consumer who gets to the dealer ship and thinks that one is truely better than the other?

oh yeah, sorry to derail this a bit, but HONDA/ACURA OEM MTF/ATF FTW. and bump. lol

they are totally diff. !!! the acura is a much more high tech blend, and if you put honda in an acura tranny or vice versa, it'll blow all apart just a lil ways down the road!!! lmao
now, what i just posted is just as dumb as the dumb stuff you guys are posting in here! LMAO

FACT, you CAN use motor oil in a honda/acura manual tranny !!!!!!!!
that's basically what the honda tranny oil is anyway!!!
most all of us have been running a good grade of engine oil in our trannys for a long long time!!! i use just plain ol wal mart 20W50 in most of my trannys and i use moble1 in my cars that i race!!!! usually like 5W30 or 10W40
what were you guys partying with for new years anyway?!? LMAO
c mon get with the program!!!!!
