Default gsr rebuild question

ok well my motor seems to be wearing down on me and its not as peppy as it used to be because of high mileage, m question is if im going to re ring the motor i was planning on going all motor and doing new pistons. which would be a better set-up for my daily driver compression wise....

type-r pistons
11.5 to 1
12.0 to 1

what are the pro and cons to having lets say the type-r's compaired to the 12.0's

just wanted to know before i buy the pistons, and the motor is std bore if it helps any

for one higher compression means higher octane gas.

+1...

also, tuning will be easier on lower compression, and the biggest one is ITR pistons and either GSR/ITR OEM rods are a SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper option opposed to $500 ish for forged internals, and the half a point of compression would only gain you 10-15whp anyway...

the higher compression will obviously yield slightly more power, however, and bigger cams respond better to higher compression. also, the stronger forged units will hold up better against detonation, nitrous, boost (should you decide thats a good idea)...

so if you just want a peppier daily driver, with some ITR cams or something, and dont want to go more than that, get the ITR internals and call it a day. if you plan on shaving the head, or getting obscene cams and spraying it later on, get the forged stuff.

but thats just my opinion. good luck.

well im trying to achieve the 200-230 hp range and didnt think the ITR 10.6 to 1 comp ratio would work, i was thinking of the 11.0 to 1, as far as higher octane would i be able to achieve this number with the ITR pistons and a CTR/ITR cam combo? if can i run 11.0 to 1 on 93 octane and still be a daily driver? and as far as lower compression and turbo/nitrous, my wife already has a 2000 civic si turbo, and i wanted to go all motor for something different.

try messing around with this c/r calculator for a bit, see what you think. the numbers are pretty close...

this says a switch from GSR to ITR pistons gives you a bump by 1.06 points, which is about 10% of what you are making at the crank now.

yes, with a good tune 11:1 is fine for the street, and can be just as reliable as anything else.

id go for the 12:1....i dont think with 10.6 or 11:1 ull make 200 without doin some serious work..right now i have an lsvtec with 11.56 and i dont think im pushin over 185whp untuned..i do think with some good cams and tune id make 200whp..but i changed my mind to go turbo..also i run 93 untuned and it runs fine..so i figure if u wanna make over 200..ull need atleast 12:1 and still good cams etc..and tune..of course..good luck..and dont hold back! ull regret it later..

spen the extra cash on the forged pistons, then you can spray the shit(100-125) and be safe. Then you will easily make over 230whp. ARP rod bolts would be a good idea too.

i myself would buy a set of Itrs and set of obx cams from ebay and no no thay will not hurt rockers i have used 3 sets myself and still have stage 2 in my hatch for 45Kmiles and seen 9k mucho mucho times...if you dont get a cam and just throw in high comepression pistons you will just be wasting usable power
