Default blown turbo seals??

Ok i've searched and searched i think my seals are shot. At idle the car will smoke. I've perchased valve stem seals, but i dont want to replace them if there not bad. It has perfect compression and perfect leakdown. So my next guess is the turbo seals. On the bottom of the compressor housing where you clock the turbo there is a small amount of oil, that looks like its dried up on the turbo.Does anyone know if there are any local shops that rebuild turbos?? Also Could i just buy a kit off ebay and do it myself? Thanks

sounds like the turbo for sure. smoke only at idle usually points toward this. check to see if the turbo is spinning when it starts smoking.

id honestly just look for new turbo and avoid the headache, plus itll probably end up being cheaper in the long run

Are you sure it is not coming from the vacuum line that goes to the head? Most of the time the smoke will happen at idle and when you let go of the gas bc it is pulling oil due to the vacuum pulls. You may just need a catch can.

if its a good turbo(garrett, turbonetics, precision). go ahead and buy the rebuild kit for it for like 45 bucks. you will need to get the wheels re-balanced(about $60). also, is your return line large enough and free of kinks? we had a rx7 that kept blowing Center cartridges cuz the return line was too small and oil pressure was getting too high and blowing the char out. if its an ssautocrap turbo, forget the rebuild, kick yourself for buying it to begin with, and buy a reputable turbo. hope that helps.

it's a Garrett T3/T4 with arund 8,000 miles on it. I do have high oil pressure.. it's usually around 70 cold and between 20 -40psi while driving and it has a -3AN feed line with a -10AN return. Ill check the return line for any kinks. thanks guys

a general rule of thumb for turbocharging is that the oil return line should be at least 4-5 times larger than the feed line. also, make sure the tap into the oil pan is above the oil level or it will have a hard time draining. these are just a few things that lead to pre-mature CHRA failure. as long as the turbo still spins freely with your finger, and none of the fins on the wheels are damaged, just buy the rebuild kit and get it rebalanced after you fix those oil routing problems.

i really doubt any of it has to do with routing issues, i mean i've ran the turbo for almost a year and out of nowhere it starts smoking. Is there anyone local shops that can rebalance the turbo? tomorrow im goign to remove the turbo and see whats up with this thing.. thanks for your input

Also i noticed that when the turbo begins to spool its making a werid whining noise, like a charge pipe is leaking. I double checked the piping and it still does it.. any idea what it could be
