well i just pulled the turbo and it had an ass load of shaft play from side to side(i dont understand it only had 8,000 miles on it if that). It looks as if some of the fins on the compressor housing have been ground down. Anyone know of any shops that rebuild turbos??

Will,

I wouldn't recommend a turbo rebuild as you will end up in the same bucket again. Your turbo should have some kind of warranty (1 year) I believe.

Good Luck,

John, i contacted Phil @ spoolin , who i bought the turbo from and he said Garrett offers a 60 day warrenty, but he said he would talk to his supplier and see if they will take it back..

just went to acurrate turbo diesel today, if the fins are scraped, get a new turbo all together. that means the bearings are shot the shaft is most likely bent, and the CHRA is worn too. when you get your next turbo, get an overlapping oil controll ring for the turbine, it controlls oil 10x better than any stock ring and its only 14.50$ good luck with the warranty stuff.

i talked to the guy Tim and he said 200 for labor plus whatever parts it needs, which i can clearly see the fins are scraped up from it moving from side to side.

yeah, you can buy a bad-ass turbo for like 700 new, if you are looking for the 60-1. but if you just want another t3/t4, shell out your 450 for a brand new one, pick up the overlapping ring, and call it a day. don't bother with the rebuild if it has hit all around the fins.
