Default b18b/a heads

I know the reason the b18b has 10 more hp over the b18a is because of the exhaust cam in the head but I was wondering if you were to take a b18a head and p&p it with new cams and cam gears if it would basically be the same head as a b18b that was p&p with new cams and gears?

unless they have a difference in valve or combustion chamber..and they are pnp the same...they should flow the same..but make sure if u pnp the head u portmatch the IM and header for best flow..(other wise ur wasting ur money)

i would imagine they would be about the same...

but what it comes down to is time vs. money. if you can grab up a B18B head for $50 on here, why spend all the time P&P and port matching when you could just get the 10 HP or whatever out of the box? why not spend the time smoothing down the B18B head, and having and even more badass head?

just something to think about...

I was going to p&p and port match anyway when I put my new cams in with something like a 3 angle valve job. I was asking the difference in the heads because if one was better than the other and they both fit on the b18 block then I would rather start off with the better of the 2. But if they will turn out the same then I don't really care which head to start off with.

Also, while we are on the topic of heads, how would I know if a head I was looking to purchase was warped due to overheating or something of that nature....in other words how do I know if it is worth picking up?
