Overheating issues
So I just got my car about a week and a half ago and its having issues with overheating. Probably going to need a new motor soon but just in case I don't...
The car overheats if its sitting in traffic idling mostly, and with acceleration and the guage will go up and down as you accelerate, this is with the fan hardwired to be on constantly, could it be the coolant temperature sensor that is causing this problem? I've recently replaced the thermostat and the coolant and its still having this problem. I was told that it could be the temperature sensor is messed up and telling the computer the car is overheating but tonight the car actually overheated and I pulled into a friends driveway billowing smoke from underneath my hood, right now it looks like nothing cracked or anything... yet, but there is no coolant on the ground or oil.
Could it be my water pump has gone bad? I was told that was most likely the problem and if it is FUCK, because I'll have to get a new motor since this one isn't going to last long enough to replace the water pump in it.
What is ya'lls opinion on this?
Oh and the car will heat up with the a/c on too.
I've discovered the fan relay is shot but the fan is hardwired until I can get another relay so its not a real big issue.
This is important so please reply ASAP if you can help me with this problem.
And if I do need a new motor I'll be looking for either a full 2nd gen b16 swap or a full LS or GSR swap.

try changing the radiator cap, i know it sounds dumb but it is a common problem that will cause an overheating issue....it could possibly be the water pump aswell, but in MY EXPERIENCE i havent' seen a water pump go bad that hastn't leaked water...try flushing your radiator...theres many things it could be...hope this helps
yea majority of the time the water pump leaks that how u kno its thewater pump. are u actually loosing coolant if so u mite have a bown headgasket or a leaking one just keep that in mind. just post up wat u been doin and we'll try to help

I thought that it could be the radiator cap, I haven't replaced it yet so if that ends up being the issue I'm going to bash in my friends brains for telling me that it only raises the boiling point.
I was thinking that, that could have been the issue so I'll try that tonight, also going to replace the thermostat temperature sensor and see if that helps at all, I do know that I drove it for about 5 minutes and it started overheating like a bitch and when I popped the hood it was boiling the coolant so whatever, its not like the motor in there is worth anything (stock SOHC FTW!) but if the motor is fucked then I'll just end up modding a lot sooner than I thought I would.

If the headgasket is bad I'll just move to Lakeland and spray it with a 150 shot

If the motor is bad I'll be looking for a replacement, b16 or b18 most likely since they are the cheapest and it isn't a pain. Or maybe SOHC VTAK with TURROZ!!!

a leakdown test is better for a bad hg, open up the radiator cap and listen
i am going thru this same ish with my d16z6 in my coupe . when we tested cylinder 3 i could hear air coming out of the radiator, it was not very loud but it was there.
spark plug 4 is so corroded i know its steamy as hell in there .
now i have oil in my overflow coolant tank and i flushed the system 2 weeks ago and cleaned it out so its all brand new in there to show me its f*d up in there
so yea i need to do a headgasket or do i put some hg sealer in there and say f the engine i don't want to deal with you
okay not but anyway
btw another way to see if the water pump is unhappy is too look at the bottom of your oil pan, you can see the stream of coolant running under it or dried up on it . it leaks out of the weep hole and proceeds down to that area

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.

Thanks for the help, I'll check that out tonight, if there isn't a puddle of coolant/oil underneath the car I should be in the clear

Hg is probably fucked though, two people have told me that so whatever, I'll probably replace it for now or get a better motor, if its fine then I'll probably just replace the small things, and if it somehow is the radiator cap like YBLegal mentioned then I am going to kick my own ass.
Magic smoke was pouring out from under my hood and poking me in the eye so I guess that something is broke

Oh well, at least I get my suspension in, along with some wheels and a better grille and I ordered my 2000 taillights to match the year of the car so once I get everything straightened out and the car running right then it'll be good until I get the money to do a swap and whatnot.
Save teh SOHC!!!!!

But first, I need to correct the issues of the engine. Also on your air conditioning my friend Jay took a hard look at the wiring diagram according to him the both fans are supposed to run at the same time, mine aren't and so my radiator fan doens't turn on when the a/c is on and bam . not happy.
just another something that needs attention ...

Yeah the radiator fan relay is burnt but the a/c fan relay is fine so I have to find out why the a/c fan doesn't run. I have been hardwiring the radiator fan so that it runs constantly but the a/c fan seems to have an issue, maybe a short, I need to figure it out soon thats for sure.
Oh well, just another thing to fix.
