Cold air intake goes into the fender and has the liabbility ot suck up water. Short ram does not.
Cold air isnt that much of a difference, maybe a horsepower or two
If you get a cold air make sure you get a AEM bypass valve, which if there is to muhc restriction from the air filter it will suck through that instead of sucking up water.

Food for thought, straight from aem website:
"
The bypass valve may cause a slight loss in power due to the interrupted wall section created by the internal shape of the valve. In dyno testing we have found that the power loss is minimal. The bypass valve offers great security against hydro locking the engine in rainy conditions. If maximum power is the requirement, we suggest that the bypass valve be used in the rainy season and when racing use a coupler hose to make a smooth section where the bypass valve goes. "
it's really personal preference. a cold air is gonna add the most hp, but not by much. A ram air is simple and effective, and also cheaper.

First step I would take if i was you is taking off those heavy giovannis (or however it is spelled). They are not going to help you with anything related to racing in any form of it. Step 2 boost (A y8 can handle upwards of 300whp if done right). If not atleast get a B16A engine swap done. Sure you can modify the D series engine in with boltons, but you won't really be getting anywhere, maybe a few tenths with all the mods. Nitrous will definetely help if you don't mind refilling bottles. Other then that it will be like pissing in the wind. You will spend alot of money (overall) and find out you haven't gained much in performance. I would disregard asthetic modifications completely, that's just another way of asking for the police to mess with you, and attracting unwanted attention (Theives). The cars from the factory already look pretty damn clean.
