head removal
how old is the head gasket, if it hasnt been changed in a REAL long time, it will stick to the block "like glue", the way i do is i leave the intake manifold on make sure ALL the bolts and brackets are off then push down and pull up on the mani, "wiggle it free" that way there will be no prying. everytime i have done it this way it was effective. and i have done this many many times.

Hmm, you may be msising a bolt somewhere, double check. If you are sure you have all of the necessary bolts out, you could try taking a block of wood and putting on each of the 4 sides of the head and gently hitting it with a hammer to try to get it to break loose. Just a thought.
did you take the power steering bracket off. Can't recall for sure on that engine, but think it joins the block and head. Also, there should be tabs on the corners of the head for inserting a flat screwdriver to pry the head up. If you get a blade in those and it still won't budge, you have something still bolted somewhere. Needless to say if you blew your engine it could be any of a number of things, obviously a valve could be sticking through a piston or Lord knows what...
Wow, you are scaring me with all this prying, that head and block is aluminum (SOFT STUFF!!!!) dont pry!! you may have already messed the head up and nicks or scars on the heads surface or in the exaust ports will hinder performance as well as cause leaks.. The head should pop off, Do this find were the head meets the block, follow that from the fromt to the back, looking for brackets that connect the head to the block, like power steering brackets and such, Once you do that reinstall the intake manifold tighten the bolts!!! and use the rocking idea as stated above this will give you all the leverage you should need. If it does not come off STOP!!! either the motor was over heated, causing the gasket to seal the block and head together or you are still missing something.. See if you can get some help(outsiders) Its a good idea sometimes to get a fresh set of hands in there with a clear head, that may find the problem, If not take a step back and just look for a while and double check things 2-3 times.. Nothing will come by getting ed off or mad, other than broken parts.. G/L.
I cans stress enough the prying needs to stop
or start looking for a new head/block.. or saving money for some serious machine work!!
I cans stress enough the prying needs to stop
