super charger questions
I have been checking some out, and wanted to know what is the real differance in the jackson racing (roots style) and the vortec. Obv they are completely differance. but what advantages do each have over the other? what kind of power levels can be made with either? would 350-400 be a long shot (within a reasonable price). and where do you think turbo;s are better. yeah a turbo can make more power, but a daily driven 350-400 hp car.

Jackson, will spool right away and you will have instant power... but power potential is pretty limited...
vortec will take a second to spool up, however will have a greater power potential than the roots blower...

as much lag as a turbo?? and can a jackson do around 400ish?
doing some research it looks like the JR s/c would be better for me. but i still want input, if possible.
if it's for a daily driver your going to be in the rpm range (most of the time) that a turbo will still be spooling up, and if your cruising and then want to punch it to get around someone you'll have the lag. For instant power the JRSC is the way to go it makes boost instantly, but is limited to around 10psi. to really have fun with a turbo on the street you have to have your foot in it most of the time, from light to light, which draws attention to your driving and attracts cops. the vortech unit is just a pulley driven turbo and they make them for upwards of 22psi, however it is still going to lag like a turbo. the vortech does have one + over a turbo, no heat soak from the exhaust side, which means your charge air will not be getting as hot, making cooling easier and more efficient.
I had a blast with my turbo setup, but for what I wanted to do I should have gone with a sc and built the motor up to take advantge of the power increase ratio of forced induction.

like mentioned earlier - heat soak. no exhaust side so no exhaust. i can put my hand on my charger i have driven and it won't burn my hand.
second my charger is 73% effiecent, which is more effiecent and a roots or screw could ever hope to be.
yes there is lag just like a turbo but if you are wanting to make 400hp a centrifigual is much more realistic because it can spool to over 20psi, also previously stated. but where it does have the advantage over a turbo is that i start bulding boost at 2k rpm with 6k to go. if i was running 20psi at 2k i would be at something lke 5-7psi already and you would be pulling a turbo car.
i only run 7-8psi so at 2k im at about 3psi so at low boost levels turbo is the way to go because it is much more effiecent.
